KUNDALINI HITS PRIME-TIME
JUST IN TIME FOR MID-SEASON REPLACEMENTS
,
KUNDALINI KOMEDY WILL PLAY OPPOSITE POPULAR NBC SHOW

November 19, 2001: On Thursday, November 29, Kundalini Komedy Sells Out (tickets still available) will present the first episode of Kundalini Komedy: The Sitcom against one of the most unstoppable primetime lineups in television history. Are they nervous? Not a bit. "We’re very pleased to have landed the coveted Thursday 8pm time slot," beamed producer Jonathan Van Gieson, "It shows a lot of faith in the show, which I think is well-deserved."

"Friends has been getting great ratings lately, sure," said Van Gieson, "but I’ll be very surprised if our show doesn’t beat the pants off it this week." The NBC sitcom consistently gets Nielsen Ratings of 15.0 and above, meaning over 160 million households tune in to watch. Kundalini Komedy: The Sitcom will be performed in a 50-seat theater in an abandoned shoe store.

"Very surprised," Van Gieson reiterated.

The first episode, entitled "The Show Must Go," premieres at 8pm on Thursday, November 29, followed by an encore presentation at 8pm on Friday, November 30, and a repeat at 8pm on Saturday, December 1. If the episode were listed in TV Guide, the listing would read; "Series Premiere: It's half an hour until showtime, but no one can get to the theater. Will the improv start on time? (TV-14)" The second and third episodes will debut in the following weeks.

The sitcom tells the story of fictitious improv group "Kundalini Komedy" (portrayed by real-life improv group Kundalini Komedy,) which is led by Matt — who makes his money dressing up as cartoon characters for children’s parties — and includes intense method actor Ean, the bitter and misanthropic Christina, Alex, a harried and neurotic temp, Lesley, the voice of experience, the suave and outgoing Bones, who runs the sci-fi porn site SexTrek, and sweet, naive Laura, who joins the group in Episode 2 — with hilarious results.

"The Show Must Go" will be followed by half an hour of improv. "It’s a lot like watching The Drew Carey Show and then watching Whose Line?
" explains director Matt Kalman, "You see actors doing a sitcom, and then you see those exact same actors again, except now they’re doing improv. Except for Drew Carey. He just sits there."
